Dry Port : Evacuation and off-site treatment

Following the remediation of an old landfill located on the Dry Port site in Mouscron, approximately 6,000 m3, consisting mainly of clayey soil mixed with household waste, still needs to be evacuated.

Challenge:

  • The challenge is to successfully separate the waste and the soil in order to optimize treatment channels and limit the quantity of waste going to landfill.

Solutions:

  • We took charge of all the soil containing waste and transferred it by barge to its treatment center in Auvelais.

  • At the center, a specific sorting/screening line was implemented to treat all materials. 

  • The treatment line was adapted several times to refine the separation of materials. 

  • We were thus able to separate the waste and the soil matrix which, after additional physico-chemical treatment, could be reused. The ultimate waste was then sent to landfill.
